Doris Ann Hampton Whittaker – December 8, 2022

Doris Ann Hampton Whittaker, age 82, passed away peacefully at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on December 8, 2022. Mrs. Whittaker was born in White County, Tennessee, on September 20, 1940, to parents Joe Dib and Linnie Mae Clouse Hampton.

Doris Whittaker was a cherished wife to Glen, her husband of 65+ years, and a devoted mother to their four children: Cindy Putman (Burton) of Cookeville, Bruce Whittaker (Heather) of Sparta, Karen Whittaker of Cookeville, and Brent Whittaker (Charlene) of McMinnville. She also took great joy in her role as Meme to six grandchildren: Kate Spears (Phillip) of Knoxville, Zack Whittaker of Cookeville, Will Putman (Cappi) of Rickman, Ayla Whittaker of Cookeville, Hannah Wright (Shawn) of Cookeville, and Brody Whittaker (Maria) of Knoxville. Doris was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Peyton Whittaker, Elsie & Sutton Wright, Elli & Milli Putman, and Easton Young.

Doris filled many other roles in her life: loving sister-in-law to Brenda Hampton and Ron & Connie Whitaker, as well as caring aunt to Chris Hampton, Chad Whitaker, and Courtney Gallaher. Her love extended to Jacie Young (Josh), Jenna Redmond, Brian Myers, Jonathan Myers (Courtney), and many others who were blessed by knowing her.


The family will receive friends Monday, December 12th, from 5 to 8 pm at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home (798 S, Willow Avenue) and will celebrate her life at Hampton’s Crossroads Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 13th at 11:00 am. Mrs. Whittaker will be buried beside her parents at Saylors Cemetery in White County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doris’ name to Sleep in Heavenly Peace (Cookeville Chapter).
